Throughout these 10 weeks I have been introduced to lots more music, as well as some genres I did not really knew existed before talking about them in class. I found it useful and noticed progression in my writing, research but most importantly I started to get used to referencing as it eventually became a natural part of writing and researching different topics. I am glad to see this development since at the beginning I found it somewhat detrimental to my process – which was previously centered about getting into a flow of writing, much like how many artists get into a flow of creating music.
Sometimes it felt like the course could be more centered around individuals due to the fact that teaching one topic to a large class can become repetitive and sometimes disengaging to somebodies personal interests. I do think that intro to music production did a good job at covering a variety of interesting topics however I personally felt that it sometimes lingered on one topic for slightly too long. At times an interesting subject would start to feel slower and therefore my personal desire to delve deeper was lessened – I think I personally would’ve rather had some of the more abstract, unknown topics be made more accessible by relating them to more well known artists or cultures that we generally would be more familiar with. Despite this I did gain a lot more appreciation for a wider variety of cultures and genres since there was (for the most part) no bias towards any particular artist or world view.
I think most of my progress has been in my writing and researching through the blog posts, by breaking down each week into more accessible bite sized pieces in an organised way I found I was retaining more information. The blogs were a great way to compress some very in depth subjects into a more intelligible recap of what I had learned that week.
