I used to think I knew what music production is but somehow it feels like I now understand even less. I think you could ask the same person to define music production and you would likely get a different answer each time. If you were to ask me yesterday I would say it’s the process of creating recordings or producing ideas and being creative – however I have made no music today and instead focused on mixing a song I had already finished. Does that mean I am less of a music producer today when compared to yesterday?
With that in mind, I think its pointless (and almost a bad idea) to try and figure out an answer to such a broad question. To try and categorise yourself as a creative individual within such a massive question would be incredibly reductionist and runs the risk of harming your specific passion, taste and excitement within the role of music producer.
I apologise for not answering the question as well as not writing enough words but in my opinion, I don’t really have anything of importance to say in response to the question. If nothing else, I would like my music production to be honest – and so that is what I am doing.
